Being an expert in any domain can come with ups and downs; you will know everything possible, you can help anyone, but, people will start asking a lot of questions, and even for a smart person, that would be Overwhelmeing.
Being an expert only in one domain is quite helpfull: you can get a job based on it, you can be employee of the month, people won't ask a lot of questions because its just one domain. You can help your colleagues, you don't have to work to much because you're already really good at your job.
