The Nightingales are an order of elite protectors who have been given blessings by the Goddess Nocturnal to protect her shrine even after their death, their souls being held prisoners until their debts to her are paid. There can only be three Nightingales at once, known as The Nightingale Trinity, Nocturnal's power being split into three.
Nightingales have always been members of the most infamous group of criminals, The Thieves' Guild, but since they were one with the night and never seen, everyone just considered them just legends. This reputation was encouraged by The Nightingales themselves, as this would allow them to walk freely without causing any doubts.
