New York story
Last year my uncle was working in the USA and he and my aunt had decided to spnd a few days in New York. One day they were walking down the street when a young man suddenly bumped into my uncle. My uncle noticed that his shoulder was dripping with tomato ketchup. A young girl, who was standing beside him, began to wipe his jacket. Luckily, my aunt who had seen everything, shouted: 'John! Watch out!' The young girl quickly dissapeared. Then my uncle realised that he had nearly been the victim of a clever pair of pickpockets.

Observaţii:
- Past Tense Continuous se foloseşte pentru a exprima o acţiune trecută care arată durata şi se traduce prin imperfect:
He was playing when she came in. - Se juca atunci când ea a intrat.
- Past Perfect Tense se foloseşte pentru a exprima o acţiune trecută desfăşurată înaintea altei acţiuni încheiate în trecut. Se ptraduce prin mai-mult-ca-perfectul.
I had left to school when he called me up. - Plecasem spre şcoală când m-a sunat.
