In the 16th century, King Rudolph II had his portrait painted by the Italian artist Guiseppe Arcimboldo. The portrait was 1) composed of fruit, vegetables and plants, 2) arranged in such a way that they 3) portrayed the king's face. Arcimboldo 4) developed his style while working at the royal court in Vienna, Austria. He made a study of the human body and the natural world and his paintings show clever 5) combinations of the two. As well as being entertaining, his works were also serious.
