England is the largest and most densely populated country in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Until 1707 England was a sovereign kingdom, by itself, the Kingdom of England. In 1707 it merged with Scotland, thus giving birth to the Kingdom of Great Britain.
