1.When wristwatches first appeared at around the turn of the century the people thought they were ridiculous.Less resistant to shock and humidity than the old chain watches ,they considered them wholly unreliable the people believed they had little future.
2.During the Napoleonic wars, the French needed to feed their army.Napoleon offered a prize of 12,000 francs for a solution.That is when the tin can was invented.
Tin cars were send to the battlefield.But the problem was then how to open them.This proved very difficult. Many of Napoleon's soldiers had gone into battle with only nine fingers ! This went on for some time until finally the tin opener was invented.
3.The first waterproof watch, the Rolex Oyster,was made by the Rolex company of Geneva . To test the first batch of watches , they immersed in water for three weeks. The poeple tought the time - keeping would be affected but IT did not show the slightest variation.
