Life, itself is a beautiful thing and creation. That's true, they can't be separated, because without them life would be in a way, useless, with no mission or end. Meaning, that we want those awesome things, so we can be happy. And that's why the human race managed t evolve and become what it is today. People wanted to get the beautiful things in life, so they worked and managed to do it.
In my opinion, Paul Valery was really right be saying that those beautiful things end when life dies. Life is just a start, but also a start till the end.
To finish this off, I am going to mention that the philosophy of life, is huge, it seems like it's infinite. But this quote can explain most of this dilemma.
