My favorite book is “Counting Stars” by Lois Lowry. It’s 1943,and Annemarie Johansen’s life in Copenhagen is a mixture of duties for school,deprivation and hunger,all under the close attention of the German soldiers at every corner of the streets. Courage seems to find it’s place only in the stories that Annemarie tells to her younger sister,Kirsti,at night. Knowing that raids of the German authorities to erase the Jewish population,the Johansens decide to save Ellen Rosen, their daughter’s best friend,as her own child. But will this be enough? “Counting Stars”is a disturbing story about love,courage and altruism,in a world dominated by fear.
