Past simple exprima o actiune inceputa si terminata in trecut. Ex: My brother went to the mountains last weekend (Fratele meu a plecat la munte weekendul trecut)
Past perfect exprima o actiune inceputa si terminata inaintea altei actiuni din trecut. Ex: When you called last weekend my brother had gone to the mountains (Cand ai sunat weekendul trecut, fratele meu plecase la munte) Acest timp este identic cu mai mult ca perfectul din limba romana.
