Putna Monastery is an Orthodox monastic sanctuary , one of the most important cultural, religious and artistic Romanian . It was dubbed "Jerusalem Romanian Nation The monastery is located 33 km northwest of the town of Radauti, Suceava county , northern Moldova. According to the old Moldavian chronicles building of the monastery , founded by Stephen the Great began in 1466 and ended in 1469 . The monastery church was devastated by the armies of Timuş Khmelnytsky . Reconstruction works were started by Prince George Stephen (1653-1658) in 1654 and completed in the reign of Dabija Eustatie ( 1661-1665 ) , in 1662 The monastery was restored between 1756-1760 by Metropolitan Jacob Putneanul care , then in 1902 when the roof was rebuilt by architect Karl Romstorfer , and more recently , in the period 1961-1975 .
